Position Summary:

The Trade & Retail Marketing Manager creates, implements and is accountable for the global trade and retail marketing strategy, plan, programs, tools and budget. He/she aims to maximize sell-in and increase sell-through at our wholesale partners. He/she is also responsible for developing and leading a long-term strategic approach for Black Diamond’s branded environments and ensuring alignment with BD’s global vision, bringing GTM strategies and concepts to life in retail by creating an interactive, authentic, engaging and compelling best-in-class brand experience in 3-D spaces with the aim to increase sell-through and build brand awareness. The Trade & Retail Marketing Manager works both upstream in close collaboration with key peers in product, sales and marketing as well as downstream to ensure the execution of the strategy and plans.


Authorized and responsible to continuously improve upon and perform all duties according to BDEL Quality, Safety and Employee Policies and Procedures:

  • Manages the Global Retail Marketing strategy, plans, programs, tools and budget: In-store branded environments, Visual Merchandizing and co-op.
  • Manages the complete Trade Marketing Strategy: Sell-in and Sell-through.
  • Drives the Global Trade and Retail Marketing Planning and Budgeting process in sync with annual corporate goals for the Product, Sales and Marketing components of the BD brand.
  • Works closely with the sales team to translate seasonal plans into best in class trade and in-store marketing programs.
  • Develops and manages the annual Trade and Retail Marketing Master Calendar.
  • Directly manages two marketing coordinators.
  • Participates in the development of the annual Creative Plan, Content Plan, Digital Marketing Plan and Sports & Community Marketing Plan.
  • Initiates all Trade and Retail Marketing projects with thoughtful and clear marketing briefs/project plans that encapsulate the relevant product marketing, brand and sales goals.
  • Ensures that the relevant product, sales and brand marketing insights are maintained through the execution of the promotional and creative efforts for all marketing projects.
  • Partners with the sales team to develop suitable in-store and co-op marketing programs and tools.
  • Works closely with sales to identify potential retailers for co-op and in-store marketing programs. Is responsible for the creation and execution of those programs and tools.
  • Partners with Marketing Director of Black Diamond Europe and team to create and implement the European Retail Marketing strategy, plan, programs, tools and budget.
  • Partners with IGD Sales Management team to deliver appropriate marketing materials for IGD markets
  • Participates to the selection of vendors and manages significant vendor relationships.
  • Responsible for Black Diamond’s presence at international, national and regional trade shows.
  • Supports the sales team throughout the sell-in process with the appropriate tools (workbook, etc.) and insights.
  • Rolls up ROI reporting of all Retail Marketing programs.
  • Executes other Marketing projects as directed by the Director of Marketing.

Qualifications:

Education

Required:

Bachelor's degree in marketing or equivalent work experience

 

Preferred:

Graduate-level degree in a marketing-related discipline

 

Work Experience

Required:

7 years in a marketing role

 

Preferred:

7+ years in marketing management role in an outdoor industry brand

  • Intimate knowledge and experience as a decision-maker with full-scope marketing programs.
  • Facility with marketing process development: Proven ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Expertise in communicating marketing direction to diverse audiences: Strong leadership, listening, collaboration and dynamic presentation skills.
  • Deep understanding and experience of retail.
  • Expertise with Marketing ROI measurement, reporting and analysis.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills with a keen sense of articulating ideas and concepts.
  • Work well under pressure and deadlines; Comfortable with change.
  • Ability to work in an open workspace environment; Strong organizational skills.
  • Capable of articulating intimate familiarity with outdoor sports such as climbing, alpinism, mountaineering and backcountry skiing.
  • Close proximity to outdoor apparel and equipment.
  • Facility with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Ability to travel (25%)
