Position Summary:

The Production Scheduler/Planner serves as the organization’s focal point for executing on the manufacturing supply plan in the most efficient manner possible.  Additionally, the position is expected to participate and contribute significantly in various elements of the Black Diamond Continuous Improvement effort.

Essential Functions:

Authorized and responsible to continuously improve upon and perform all duties according to BD Inc’s Quality, Safety and Employee Policies and procedures:

  1. Production Scheduling: Evaluate and execute the Master Production Schedule for all in-house manufactured products, using the ERP system and other tools as necessary.  Working closely with Manufacturing and Engineering, release work to the manufacturing floor for all subassemblies and products, to maximize demand fulfillment while minimizing inventory carrying costs.  Establish metrics to determine effectiveness of planning activities in meeting customer demand. 

  2. Planner:  Serve as a member of the Sales and Operational Planning group to articulate manufacturing capabilities and capacities, and to participate in the development of global strategies for maintaining the demand/supply balance.

  3. ERP:  Serve as the primary point person for the elements of the ERP system that pertain to the demand/supply profile for manufactured products.   Work with all Operational departments and M.I.S. to drive systemic improvements.  Serve as the mentor and trainer to manufacturing personnel in all issues related to MRP.  Participate in the effort to evolve the ERP system to better suit the needs of a Lean manufacturing environment.

  4. Continuous Improvement – Drive a continuous improvement approach into Production Scheduling.  Be willing and capable of leading improvement groups to refine methods, increase inventory turns and promote higher levels of efficiency.

  5. Be willing to learn and assist with any task necessary to help the department and BDEL meet objectives for on-time, quality, and cost efficient delivery of product.




High School diploma or GED


Bachelor’s degree or APICS certification

Work Experience


5 years experience in a make to stock, MRP II driven manufacturing environment.


5+ years manufacturing specific production planning and inventory control experience.

Skills and General Experience:
Demonstrated time management, communication, and organizational skills required.  High skill levels in data base management, spreadsheet usage and word-processing are required.  Detailed experience working with integrated ERP systems is critical.
