2017583: Softgoods Developer III

Position Summary:

He/She will be responsible for the management and execution of Black Diamond’s product development process activities for the softgoods product categories. He/She will be responsible for leading all of the development tasks for specific product development projects for these product categories from the design specification hand off phase (C.PA) through to sale sample phase (SS.PA). He/She will be expected to complete all of the required development functions in accordance with the product design objectives and within the published company development timeline, projected product costing and spending targets. In addition, He/She will work as a member of a cooperative team based working environment. Furthermore, based on his/her experience levels, he/she may be asked to provide advice and guidance on line concepts, manufacturability, cost and supplier input during the design conceptualization phase. He/she will be expected to assume a managing role during the proto-typing and product sampling phase.  




Qualifications:

Education

Required:

Bachelor's Degree of Arts and/or Science and/or Product Design and/or Development


Alternative to Education qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline combined with a thorough global knowledge base and work experience in technical softgoods design, testing and development



Work Experience

Required:

5 years of development experience in technical softgood products such as: backpacks, ski gloves, safety harnesses, tents, sleep systems or luggage. In addition, experience in sub-component supply chain management, project management and/or product development in an ISO compliment company(s) in outdoor recreation market and/or related industries is desired.

                

Skills and General Experience:

Comprehensive understanding of global manufacturing enterprises combined with the leadership traits and communication skills required to manage business development in this environment. Experience with quality systems, lean manufacturing techniques, sourcing and contractor qualification, product design, costing, MRP and global logistics is required. Strong leadership, collaboration and negotiation skills are mandatory. Thorough knowledge of MS office tools required. Understanding of industrial design, demand management and supplier and contractor contracts are required. Must be able to use the product in the field and provide critical feedback on product function.

Proven problem solving abilities and mechanical aptitude.

He/She must have a proven problem solving ability and the natural inclination to think in three dimensions.  He/She must be an eternal optimist and a strong team player. He/She must have the ability to understand and create subcomponent and/or product drawings and Technical Manufacturing Packages (TMP’s).  Preference will be given to those with development experience appropriate to the product categories of responsibility. He/She must have relevant computer expertise with Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator. Must also be able to quickly learn and apply additional software tools as required.

 Proven project/timeline management skills

He/She must have proven timeline/project management experience, be disciplined, detail oriented, organized and has the ability to multi-task in a group environment.

Required licenses:  Valid passport and drivers’ license.

Required ability to travel: He/She must be willing to travel within the contiguous United States of America (USA), as well as, internationally to work with suppliers, contractors, and others. He/She may also attend relevant off site events as required to complete his/her job responsibilities. This position may require a total travel time away from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA of up to twenty-five percent (25%) of the work year or sixty-five (65) business day or thirteen (13) weeks per year.
